Banashankari Temple in Southern Bangalore, located on Kanakapura Road, is certainly one of the most popular places of worship in Bangalore City. Devotees have strong belief in the goddess also it is believed that she fulfills desires for prayers done in true sincere. The history of Banashankari temple in Bangalore dates back to the year 1915. This temple was founded by Somanna Shetty, a devotee of Goddess Banashankari. He brought a deity of Goddess from Badami, a holy place in Bijapur district, and installed it inside the temple.

Uniqueness of Banashankari Temple

The unique features of the Banashankari temple in Bangalore is of the fact that Goddess is worshipped and prayers are offered during Rahukala time, Rahukala is believed to be an unfavorable time as per Hindus. Additionally it is believed that worshipping Goddess Banashankari in Rahukala to overcome all of the hardships as well as paucities of life. This temple attracts huge number of devotees, particularly on Tuesdays, Fridays as well as Sundays. The prayers to Goddess Banashankari are offered by lighting many oil lamps in semi cut lemon peels, whose pulp have been removed.

The Banashankari temple in Bangalore at present comes under the administration and management of the Endowment Department of the Government of Karnataka.

Annual Fair held at Banashankari Temple, Bangalore

The annual fair is held in the final week of December or the very first week of January, to mark the anniversary of this temple. The annual fair witnessed by huge number of devotees of Bangalore city as well as different parts of Karnataka.

The Dussehra festival celebration is also held at Banashankari Temple in great devotion in October-November.
